About Evolver

Evolver is an optimization add-in for Microsoft Excel that uses innovative genetic algorithm (GA), OptQuest, and linear programming technology to quickly solve virtually any type of problem that can be modeled in Excel. Evolver has a unique ability arrive at the best overall “global” solution to a problem—solutions traditional solvers typically miss.

The Evolver add-in enables determining optimal solutions to virtually any type of deterministic problem, that is, any problem that doesn’t include explicit uncertainty. Simply put, Evolver finds the best inputs for optimizing a specified output. Evolver can be used to find the right mix, ordering, or grouping of variables that produces the highest profit, the lowest cost, the shortest project completion time, the lowest risk, and so on. Evolver works with Excel by first setting up a typical spreadsheet model in Excel and then evoking Evolver to find an optimal solution.
