Starting and Stopping @RISK
@RISK is an add-in for Microsoft Excel, meaning that it requires a full version of the program to run (see the System Requirements for complete information). Because @RISK is an add-in and not a standalone application, there are a few ways to start and stop it.
Please note: the steps below are for starting and stopping @RISK after it has been installed. For installation instructions, please see the License and Installation Guide.
Starting @RISK
The primary method for starting @RISK is to use the application shortcut either on the Desktop or through the Start Menu. Using the application shortcut will launch Microsoft Excel and initialize @RISK. The @RISK Ribbon will appear after the add-in has been loaded.
Additionally, @RISK can be loaded in Excel manually:
- Within Excel, go to File > Options.
- From the left-hand panel, select Add-ins.
- At the bottom of the Add-ins window, locate the 'Manage:' drop-down menu and select 'Excel Add-ins'. Click 'Go'.
- The Add-ins window (Figure 1, right) will open; in this window, check the box beside the @RISK add-in.
- Click OK.
Please note: activating the @RISK add-in using the manual method will cause Excel to load @RISK every time Excel is started; the @RISK add-in will need to be manually deactivated to run Excel without it.
Stopping @RISK
To stop the add-in without shutting down Excel, follow these steps:
- Within Excel, go to File > Options.
- From the left-hand panel, select Add-ins.
- At the bottom of the Add-ins window, locate the 'Manage:' drop-down menu and select 'Excel Add-ins'. Click 'Go'.
- The Add-ins window (Figure 1, right) will open; in this window, uncheck the box beside the @RISK add-in.
- Click OK.
Unloading the @RISK add-in will cause all @RISK functions within a workbook to return errors!
